Artists use Corel Painter X to create vibrant digital paintings and illustrations. Corel publishes versions of the software for PC and Mac computers. When you change or upgrade your version of the software, you must uninstall the original version to start using the new one. Use the correct uninstall procedure to minimize technical problems.







Windows Versions Before Vista

  • Windows versions before Vista include Windows 98 and XP. For these earlier versions, click the "Start" button, then "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs." This brings up a list of installed programs. Find Corel or Painter X in that list and select "Change/Remove." A box pops up; select "Remove." When another box appears, tick the check-mark box next to "Remove User Files." Click "Remove" to uninstall your old version of Corel Painter X.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • Microsoft changed the procedure for uninstalling in Windows 7 and Vista. Click the "Start" button, then select "Control Panel," "Programs" and "Program Features." Select "Uninstall/Change" when you find Corel Painter X in the list of installed programs. A box pops up; select "Remove." When another box appears, tick the check-mark box next to "Remove User Files." Click "Remove" to uninstall your old version of Corel Painter X.

Mac OS

  • For Mac OS X, drag and drop the Corel Painter X application folder into the "Trash" icon. Click "Home" to find your "User" folder menu. Access the "Library" menu to find an "Application Support" folder. Find the "Corel" folder and drag and drop it to the "Trash" icon. Look for the "Preferences" folder in that same "Library" menu. Drag and drop the "com.corel.PainterX.plist" file to the "Trash" icon. Open the "Finder" menu and complete the installation by selecting "Empty Trash."

Resetting User Workspace

  • If you forget to select "Remove User Files" when uninstalling Corel Painter X on a Windows system, you may need to reset your user workspace when trying to reinstall the software. Hold down the "Shift" key when starting the program and select "Current Workspace" when prompted.
