How to Make a Hibernation Flap Book With Animals & Their Homes

,
A "flap book" (also known as a "lap book") is an educational tool designed so that its reader can easily digest information. The book is generally a file folder containing a number of "mini-books" that concentrate on a specific subject. This allows a general subject to be broken down, making it easier to absorb. If you wish to make a flap book about certain animals and their hibernation practices, you can do so using various crafting tools.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • File folder
    • 1
Cut sheets of paper into small squares of equal size. Write down the name of one of the animals you will be writing about on a sheet of paper. This will serve as a "cover" for one of the mini-books in your flap book.
    • 2
Write down the hibernation information for your animal on other small squares of paper. For example, if you want to include hibernation information about the brown bear in your flap book, write on one sheet that the brown bear will not feed during its 7-month hibernation period. Another sheet can say that the bears will construct their own hibernation den. A third sheet can state that bears have a 99 percent survival rate during the winter, and so on.
    • 3
Place your sheets of paper, with the hibernation information for your animal, under the sheet you made in step 1. Staple these pieces of paper together on the left side to create a mini-book.
    • 4
Open your file folder and glue your mini-book to the inside.
    • 5
Repeat steps 1 through 3 with the other animals you wish to place in the flap book. Other animals to consider for the flap book include hedgehogs, mice, lemurs, bats and koalas.
    • 6
Close the file folder and write a title for your flap book on the front side, preferably a title related to the subject, such as "Hibernation" or "Animals and Their Dens."
