I Moved a RoboForm Folder & Now It Won't Work

,
RoboForm is an automatic form filler and password vault that works with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox. It memorizes any fields you type into a form, including usernames and passwords, and remembers them for future use. It also remembers a great deal of personal information, such as credit card numbers, banking information and addresses.

How Does RoboForm Store User Data?

  • When RoboForm is installed, it becomes an add-on to any browsers you have installed. The software's appearance is different on each browser, but for the most part it sits in the background. When you fill out any form fields, it will ask if you want to save it. If you say yes. it will store the data in a file with the site’s name, or a name you give it, with an RFP extension under the RoboForm data folder.

Where Does RoboForm Store User Data?

  • By default, RoboForm stores all user data in a folder called "RoboForm" under the ProgramData folder on the drive where your operating system files are located. Under this directory will be files with several different extensions, depending on the type of data. “RFP” designates a standard form data file. “RFX” is a form that you have blocked from being filled or remembered. “RFN” is a “Safenote” file. Safenotes are another feature that allows you to type in and remember free-form data that isn’t related to a form.

What Happens if You Move It?

    • If you just move the folder without telling the software where it is located, it will no longer be able to find your user data. It will still operate as normal, but every site will be new to it again, and it will save the data all over again in the default location.

How to Resolve a Moved Folder

    • In whichever browser you're using, click the down arrow next to the green RoboForm icon on the toolbar. This will either be on a toolbar at the top, or in the status bar at the bottom. Click the “Options” menu and then “User Data.” Click the “Set Folder” button and then scroll through your directory structure to select the location where you moved the folder to. RoboForm should now operate as expected.
