A board book is less a type of
book and more a method of binding. Board books are popular in the
publication of children's books because they are easy to use and a
little more durable than paper books. If you have a children's book you
would like to see on "board," then making this happen is a relatively
easy and affordable process. You just need some pressed cardboard and
some adhesive paper.

Preparation
-
1
Cut an appropriate amount of boards using pressed cardboard. The amount of boards you cut should depend on the inner pages of your book, plus the front and back covers.
-
2
Use "white board," a laminated cardboard made with white fibers. An alternative could be "gray board" made with gray fibers instead.
-
3
Make sure that each board measures 5 by 5 inches, from cardboard that is roughly 1/16 inch thick.
Development
-
1
Print the images of your book onto adhesive paper. Each image should take up two sides of board. For example, your first image will be printed on the first two pages.
-
2
Place down your first sheet, face first. Peel the back off before placing two boards on top carefully until the paper is stuck. Continue doing this with each board.
-
3
Ensure that the cover image of your book spans the front and back cover, as well as the spine. Again, print the cover image on adhesive paper.
-
4
Place the adhesive paper down and peel the backing off. Cut out a piece of thick, heavy paper the same width as the spine of your book and press it onto the paper where the spine will go. This helps keep each page in place.
-
5
Position the book onto the adhesive paper, making sure the spine is aligned. Cover the front and back of the book with the paper neatly and carefully. Each page should now open and close effectively, and your board book should be complete. Make any finishing touches necessary.
