How to Make Frameless Photos for Your Wall
,
If you live in an apartment or
dorm, you are likely not allowed to hang fixtures, shelves or any other
item that requires a hole in the wall. But this shouldn't stop you from
personalizing your space. As a damage-free alternative to picture
frames, you can make frameless photos of your friends and family to
mount on your walls. Not only will you save money, but you'll enjoy the
ease with which you can switch out your favorite photos once you're
ready for a change.
Instructions
Things You'll Need
1/8 inch non-adhesive foam board
Photos
Spray glue adhesive
Craft knife
Ruler
Mounting tape
1
Measure the photo you'll be
hanging and then purchase a sheet of non-adhesive, 1/8 inch thick foam
board that is larger than the photo. If you'll be hanging several
photos, you can buy just one large sheet of foam board as long as all
the photos fit on the board with 1/2 inch of space between them. For
more of a three dimensional effect, use thicker foam board.
2
Lay the sheet of foam board on a
flat, clean work surface. For this project, you'll want a durable
surface that's not fragile, such as an ironing board or wooden work
bench.
3
Cover the back side of the photo
you'll be using with a coating of spray glue adhesive. It's better to
use spray adhesive rather than glue that comes in a stick or squirt
bottle because you'll achieve a smoother finish. Once it's coated, stick
the photo onto the foam board. Do the same for any other photos you'll
be mounting, making sure there's 1/2 inch of space between each one.
4
Take a craft knife and place it
at the corner of one of the photos that's now stuck to the foam board.
Using a downward motion, cut as close to the edge of the photo as
possible until you can remove that photo from the larger foam board
sheet. Using a ruler can help you cut in a straight line if you don't
have a steady hand. Cut out all photos using this method and discard or
recycle any scrap foam board.
5
Turn over a photo foam board and
line each edge with a piece of mounting tape. Mounting tape is double
sided and will stick to both the photo and the wall. Remove any plastic
covering the adhesive and then mount the frameless photo on a wall.
