Planning out your meals in
advance with a meal calendar may seem like a daunting task, but it can
make your life easier during the busy work week as well as into an
activity-packed weekend. Creating a meal calendar helps you save money
by encouraging you to eat more dinners at home, and prompting you to use
perishable items before they go bad. When making the calendar, consider
your family's favorite meals and the ingredients you already have on
hand.

Take stock of pantry, refrigerated and frozen items before designing the meal plan. Create a list of ingredients you already own so you can incorporate them into your meal ideas. Make a special note of any items, such as produce or bread, that are due to expire soon.
-
2
Consider any food coupons you have, or any weekly grocery store specials, before designing the weekly menu.
-
3
Look through cookbooks, your recipe cards or online cooking channels to gain meal inspiration. Create a meal plan for each day of the week. Take into account any leftovers you have. Create a grocery shopping list as you design the meal plan for convenience.
-
4
Transfer the meal ideas to a monthly calendar magnet board you can attach to your refrigerator. Place an X through any days, such as a birthday or other special occasion, that you plan to eat out. Make a note of any meal preparations you will need to handle in advance, such as creating bread dough or thawing frozen fish or meat.
