A trip to the beach teaches
children that the ocean is an extremely large swimming pool. What's
beneath the surface of that ocean is where the life really begins. Do
some research into the creatures and plants that live in the ocean
before starting this project. Also point out where the world's oceans
are on a map. This will help your child connect their project with the
real world.
Instructions
Things You'll Need
- Poster board
- Light blue tissue paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Colored pencils
- Multi-colored construction paper
-
-
1
Cut out a 1-inch wide strip of brown construction paper that is the length of your poster board. Tape it to the bottom of the board to make the ocean's floor.
-
2
Cut out long strings of green construction paper to make seaweed coming up from the floor.
-
3
Cut out ocean creatures from construction paper. Make multi-colored fish, whales, dolphins, sharks, star fish and shell fish. Paste the creatures to the poster board to make them look like they are swimming in the ocean or sitting on the ocean floor.
-
4
Paint over the entire posterboard with glue, including over the sea animals and seaweed that you pasted on.
-
5
Cut out a piece of light blue tissue paper that will cover the entire poster board, then paste it over the poster board. You will be able to see the ocean life that you created behind it, and the tissue paper will look like water.
