How to Modify THM Files on a BlackBerry

A .thm file, which is a small thumbnail image used to represent a larger version of the same image, can be modified by copying and pasting the file from your BlackBerry to your computer and using the Paint application included with your Windows 7 installation. You can change .thm files to .jpg in Windows Explorer by renaming the file. Once the file has been modified, you can copy it back to your BlackBerry.

     Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the USB cable included with your device.

     Click the "Windows Explorer" icon in the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.

     Select "Organize" at the top-left corner of the window, then click "Folder and search options." This will open a new "Folder Options" window.

     Click the "View" tab at the top of the window, then click the box to the left of "Hide extensions for known file types" to remove the check mark.

     Click "Apply," then click OK." This will close the "Folder Options" window, but will leave the "Windows Explorer" window open.

     Click your BlackBerry from the list of folders on the left side of the window.

     Browse to the .thm file you want to modify, then click it once to select it.

     Press "Ctrl" and "C" to copy the file, browse to your computer desktop, then press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste the file. Leave the BlackBerry window open if you want to restore the modified .thm file to its original location.

     Right-click the file, then click "Rename."

     Delete the ".thm" portion of the file name, then replace it with ".jpg" and press "Enter" on your keyboard.

     Right-click the file, click "Open With" and select "Paint."

     Use the Paint tools in the ribbon at the top of the window to modify the image. For example, you could use the "Text" tool to add words to the image, or you could use the "Eraser" tool to erase portions off the image.

     Click the "Paint" tab at the top-left corner of the window, then click "Save As."

     Click inside the "File Name" field, add ".thm" to the end of the file name and click "Save."
