How to Use Shoutcast With Icecast 2

,
Shoutcast and Icecast 2 both provide servers, along with client software, which enable users to broadcast audio from their computers to the Internet. Shoutcast streams are added to Shoutcast's website, while Icecast 2 stations are set up on Streaming Directory. And while the two clients are associated with different Internet music directories, you can use both applications together. If you find Icecast's graphical user interface and simple configuration to be preferable to Shoutcast's command line console, you can connect Icecast 2 to your Shoutcast server.

Instructions

    • 1
Download and install a free copy of the Icecast 2 server client. You'll need to have Winamp, Shoutcast's Winamp plugin and a Shoutcast account already setup.
    • 2
Launch the Icecast 2 client after the installation process has completed. Select the "Edit Configuration" option from the "Configuration" heading, to open Icecast 2's configuration option in a word processor.
    • 3
Type your server information beside the HTML tags in configuration file. Type your password between the "</source-password>" and "</admin-password>" pairs of tags. Close the file and save your changes. Click on Icecast 2's "Start Server" button.
    • 4
Launch Winamp. Select the "Preferences" option from the program's "Options" heading. Click on the "DSP/Effect" heading in the Preferences menu. Click on the "Nullsoft Shoutcast Source DSP" plug-in, and then click on the "Configure Active Plug-In" button.
    • 5
Type your Shoutcast server address into the "Address" field in the plug-in window that appears. Type password into the "Password" field, and then click on the "Shoutcast v1 mode" box.
    • 6
Click on the "Connect" button to connect to your Shoutcast server via Icecast 2, and then begin playing your audio through Winamp or any other audio source on your computer.
