How to Use SketchUp Studs

,
Google SketchUp is a drawing program similar to AutoCAD: it allows users to draw 3-D images of buildings and landscapes, which can be used to help visualize a layout or to create a usable blueprint for construction projects. Hundreds of pre-created building materials are available for SketchUp users to download and implement into their designs, including studs, which are the long boards that make up the frame of a house.

Instructions

    • 1
Open your SketchUp design project. Select the Stud component from the Component Library to add a stud to your project.
    • 2
Select the Copy/Move tool on the toolbar. Press "Option" until a plus sign appears over the stud. This indicates that the component is now in Copy mode and can be copied.
    • 3
Click and drag the stud along the axis on which you want it placed; the axis is composed of red, blue and green lines. Type the distance you want between the original stud and the new stud in the box that appears when you move the component. For example, type "12" if you want to place the studs 12 inches apart. Press "Enter."
    • 4
Repeat until you have created and placed all the studs necessary for your design project.
