Ribbon Weave Greeting Card Instructions

The shelves in the ribbon section of craft stores are filled with cheery polka dots, smart stripes, elegant satin, delicate organdy, and even mod prints. You can use ribbons make a card for anyone for any occasion. Use yellow polka dots and light blue to welcome a baby boy. Beige and brown stripes and solid beige would make a perfect birthday card for a man. A girl would love a mod print on her graduation card. Finished edges make ribbon easy to weave.

• Ruler
• Plain greeting card
• 1/4-inch ribbon
• Scissors
• Glue stick or dots

     Measure the height and width of the front of the card.

     Cut six pieces of ribbon 1/2 inch longer than the height of the card; four of a darker color and two of a lighter color. Cut six pieces of ribbon 1/2 inch longer than the width of the card; four of the darker color and two of the lighter.

     Place the card on the table with the fold on the left side. Open the card. Glue 1/4 inch of the end of a long, dark piece of ribbon to the top of the card on the left side of the fold. Make sure the ribbon is sticking up above the card with the end glued on the inside. The right edge should be against the fold. Glue the end of a long piece of light ribbon next to the first ribbon in the same way. Glue a piece of long, dark ribbon next to the light ribbon. Close the card.

     Fold down 1/4 inch on the end of a short, dark piece of ribbon. Glue the end of the ribbon to the top-left corner of the card with the fold of the ribbon against the fold of the card. Fold down the long ribbon closest to the fold over this ribbon. Weave the second ribbon under this ribbon and the third ribbon over it.

     Fold down 1/4 inch on a short, light ribbon. Glue the end of this ribbon to the card over the leftmost vertical ribbon with the fold on the ribbon even with the fold on the card. The top edge of this ribbon should be just below the short dark ribbon. Weave this ribbon under the second vertical ribbon and over the third. Glue and weave a third short, dark ribbon in the same way you attached the first short ribbon.

     Glue and weave ribbons to the other three corners in the same way. Fold the final ends of the ribbon to the inside of the card and glue them down.

     Write a greeting or glue on a picture in the space between the ribbons.
