What Is GetPlus HelperSvc.Exe?

It is not always easy to know what a file on your computer represents. The operating system alone has more files than you could probably ever identify. With the number of viruses and malware programs out there, it's reasonable to be concerned when you see a file type you do not recognize. There are two key factors to look for when investigating a random file on your computer: the name and extension. Each will tell you something about the file you are questioning.

1. GetPlus

   • GetPlus is a transfer manager program. This means it helps you download, upload and distribute files between your computer and an Internet server. If you need to pull a file off the Internet or upload a file to it, this program handles the transfer. Vendor NOS Micro describes it as a download, upload and installation manager. GetPlus works in both Windows and Linux environments. GetPlus helpersvc.exe is an executable file from the software program.

   Executable Files

   • The extension on this file identifies it as an executable. These are the power files in a software program. Executables trigger the software processes. They give instructions that help run the tasks in the application. The code on an executable files is written in a computer language that the system can recognize. Without these file types, most applications would sit and never run. You can think of an executable file as the starting gun that begins the race for an application.

   Adobe

   • You might be wondering where this program came from and why it is on your computer. It is difficult to say for sure, but GetPlus is an installer program sometimes associated with software maker Adobe. In other words, this may the be installer used by an Adobe program that you downloaded from the Internet. For instance, if you ran an update for Acrobat Reader, this program may have been part of that package. It may also be a portion of a purchased product, such as Photoshop, from Adobe.

   Considerations

   • This program has a known source and is not a threat to your computer. If you remove it, the main application that needs it will not function. If GetPlus is running in the background on your operating system, you can turn it off. Click on the Windows icon at the bottom of your screen. Type "msconfig" into the search box and hit the "enter" key. This will open the system configuration dialog box. Move up to the top and select the "Startup" tab. This shows you a list of programs that run every time you boot your computer. Find GetPlus on the list and click on the box to remove the check mark. Once you press the "Ok" button, the application will prompt you to reboot the computer.
