Autodesk TrueView is a free document viewer that allows users to view DWG and DXF files that were created by AutoCAD and other computer-aided drafting and design programs. While TrueView can theoretically open any supported file without problems, errors do occasionally occur when users launch or use the program. Some of these errors are fatal errors, resulting in TrueView's crashing completely.
Autodesk DWG TrueView
- TrueView is one of two related programs designed to allow users to view designs saved in AutoCAD's native DWG file format. The TrueView software is also an integrated component of Autodesk Design Review, the other free AutoCAD viewing solution that allows users to view, print and perform other limited viewing actions such as viewing file changes within DWG files. Both programs are built directly from Autodesk's AutoCAD software engine to ensure complete compatibility with the DWG file format.
Fatal Errors
- Fatal errors occur when a program encounters a problem that stops normal functioning and causes the program's processes to terminate completely. Though TrueView is generally a stable program that is not prone to crashes, the DWG viewer does encounter fatal errors occasionally. These errors typically occur when the user takes specific actions, though fatal error crashes may be unrelated to user actions.
Error Causes
- As TrueView is built off the AutoCAD engine, most of the causes of fatal errors within the program occur in the main AutoCAD software as well. These causes include incompatibility with certain core operating system files that result in the program's crashing when certain actions are taken in the software, and program interference caused by anti-spyware software that leads to TrueView's crashing during startup. Virus infection and hard drive hardware problems can also result in file corruption that causes documents and other TrueView files to crash when accessed.
Error Recovery
- Some fatal errors are one-time events and require no recovery effort on your part; simply restart the program and attempt to open the same file and you should have no problem. If you do encounter repeated problems, make sure that your operating system is fully updated, as hotfixes and other patches are frequently released to correct known compatibility issues with programs such as AutoCAD and TrueView. If TrueView crashes during startup, visit the Autodesk support website to see if hotfixes or other patches are available for your version of the software; Autodesk is diligent about updating its software to correct known issues. If fatal errors still occur, uninstall and reinstall TrueView to replace potentially corrupted files with uncorrupted versions.
