Using layers in the graphic-editing program GIMP, you can modify an image’s elements independently of one another. If you want to experiment with different fonts and sizes for an image's text elements, for example, create a new layer in the image, and then enter the text into that layer. By default, new layers that you create in GIMP are transparent, but you can configure the program to create a layer in any color that you desire.
Instructions
- 1Launch GIMP. Open the image that you want to modify.
- 2Click the "Foreground Color" box in the Toolbox dialog. Click the color that you want to use for the new layer. Click and drag the crosshairs to set the color brightness, if desired.
- 3Click "OK" to set the new foreground color.
- 4Open the "Layer" menu and click "New Layer."
- 5Click the radio button next to "Foreground Color." Click "OK" to create a new layer in the color that you previously selected.
