A problem and solution chart is a good way to get your children, students or employees to identify problems and find solutions for them. The chart consists of columns and rows that help outline a problem's consequences and causes. One area is set aside for solutions. Whether you use such a chart in a school setting, work environment or at home, it's sure to get people brainstorming about the problems at hand.
Instructions
- 1Draw an 8-by-10-inch square on an 8 1/2-by-11-inch piece of white paper. Use a ruler to easily draw straight lines.
- 2Measure 2 inches from the top of the square and make a horizontal line from the left to the right side of the square. Write the words "Problem-Solution Chart" in the center of this 2-inch row.
- 3Measure 2 inches below the top row and draw a horizontal line from the left to the right side of the square. Perform this same action three more times so you end up with a total of four empty 2-inch rows.
- 4Draw a vertical line 2 inches from the left side of the square. Extend the line from the bottom of the caption column all the way to the bottom of the square.
- 5Write the word "Problem" in the first 2-by-2-inch square in the left upper corner of the page. Write the word "Effects" in the square below the first one. Write "Causes" in the third square and "Solutions" in the bottom square.
- 6Place your chart in a clear sheet protector and store it as your master copy. Make photo copies of your master copy and hand these out when a problem needs to be addressed.
