Cg is a programming language that lets software developers control the shape, motion and appearance of programmable graphics hardware. NVIDIA, developer and manufacturer of computer graphics cards, and Microsoft, teamed up to create the Cg language. Microsoft refers to the Cg language as High-Level Shading Language, or HLSL. To view the source code of a Cg or HLSL file, any text editor can be used. Notepad is a free text editor that comes preinstalled on all Microsoft Windows computers.
