Photoshop Says Reinstall Tablet

,

You can design digital art with a drawing tablet and Photoshop.
Photoshop Says Reinstall Tablet thumbnailAdobe Photoshop is high-end graphic design software used to draw, create and customize digital photos and images. While you can do all this using only your computer mouse, computer tablets provide a way to replicate the act of traditional drawing within the Photoshop software. If your computer returns errors when you attempt to run Photoshop with a tablet, troubleshoot the tablet’s connections and software to resolve the issue.

  1. About Drawing Tablets

    • Digital artists use computer drawing tablets to create digital graphics within graphic design programs, such as Photoshop. These tablets connect to a computer through a USB port and require you to install specific driver software, which allows the computer to detect the tablet. Once properly installed, you can draw on the surface of the tablet using the tablet stylus, similar to the way you draw on paper using a pen or pencil.

    Photoshop and Tablets

    • Photoshop supports a wide variety of drawing tablets, including Wacom, DigiPro, VisTablet and Genius. Often, a new tablet comes bundled with a version of the Photoshop software, allowing new users to experiment with using a tablet in the graphic program environment. If you are using a different version of Photoshop or if you upgrade, ensure that the tablet you own is compatible with the version of Photoshop you install. While this may not be an issue for newer drawing tablets, some older drawing tablets may not have the proper support in newer versions of Photoshop.

    Basic Troubleshooting

    • When you encounter an error with your drawing tablet in Photoshop, conduct basic troubleshooting before attempting to reinstall the tablet. First, unplug the tablet USB cord from the back of the computer tower and plug it back in to a different USB slot. This sometimes allows your computer to redetect the tablet. Also, reboot your computer, ensuring that the tablet is properly plugged in on the computer’s start up. Once the computer has fully loaded, launch Photoshop and determine if this has corrected the error.

    Reinstall Tablet Drivers

    • If switching USB ports and rebooting your machine does not clear up the issue, reinstall the tablet drivers on your computer. If you can, completely uninstall the tablet software and reboot your computer. Ensure the tablet is properly connected and reinstall the driver software that came with your tablet. Navigate to the table manufacturer’s website to download and install the newest version of the driver. Updated drivers often fix issues and incompatibilities that tablets have with software.
