In the fictional online world of Gielinor, “RuneScape” players improve their resilience to attacks with special equipment blessed by the gods. These advantages are a feature of the prayer skill, which allows you to access supernatural boosts, such as rapid healing, protection from magic and enhanced precision in archery. Prayer gear is most useful in combat, where it is used to extend the value of your prayer points.
Prayer Skill
- Prayer is trained by burying or scattering the bones and ashes of fallen foes. Each prayer level earned grants you an additional point. When a prayer is activated, your points are gradually drained and must be recharged at an altar. You can activate certain prayers simultaneously to receive multiple bonuses, such as a protection prayer and an attack increase. Despite your own prayer bonuses, the effectiveness of your prayers can be limited by any bonuses used by opponents during combat. The Prayer skill is available to all players, but the highest level prayers are reserved for members.
Equipment Bonuses
- In addition to making a fashion statement, prayer clothing, jewelry, armor and weapons mark players as favored by the gods. Items such as the Zamorak robes and holy symbol draw power from a specific deity and influence the way certain non-playing characters interact with you. Prayer gear is primarily used to preserve points. Each bonus point delays the drainage of prayer points by 3.33 percent. Individual items offer varied amounts of bonus points ranging from one to 13, so you can potentially extend prayer points more than 100 percent by combining multiple items. Non-members can’t access the full range of prayer gear, and as a result, the maximum prayer bonus these players can obtain is approximately 87 percent, at the time of publication.
Auras and Potions
- Members have the option of obtaining prayer auras and potions for additional bonuses. The Reverence aura is available through the Members Loyalty Program in exchange for 5,000 loyalty points. The aura grants a point bonus, decreases the drain rate and increases the potency of prayer potions. Players can blend their own prayer potions using the herblore skill, but non-members can only purchase herblore potions from other players. Prayer potions contain three or four doses per vial and provide an immediate boost to your prayer points. Players typically bring auras and prayer potions when venturing into dangerous areas to keep prayers activated as long as possible.
NPC Weaknesses
- Players encounter a host of malevolent creatures while traveling through the realms of “RuneScape,” especially in members-only dungeons. Retrieving the appropriate prayer equipment before a battle can increase your chances of defeating certain monsters. Characters associated with the dark forces of Gielinor are often susceptible to specific weapons or items blessed by an opposing deity. For example, the holy symbol of Saradomin weakens vampires during combat. The wolfbane dagger acquired during the Priest in Peril quest prevents werewolves from transforming to their level 88 form, allowing you to fight the character in a level 24 human form.
