How to Edit Negative Wikipedia Articles

,
Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wikipedia's policies state that any information added must be verifiable, must not violate any copyrights and must not contain contentious or biased information about any living person. Because the public provides the content, it is possible that negative entries will appear. While you shouldn't edit negative entries if they are true, Wikipedia allows you to edit most articles.

Instructions

    • 1
Navigate to the Wikipedia page you want to edit. Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the page if you want to edit the whole article. Click the "Section Edit" link if you only want to edit a section of the article.
    • 2
Edit the negative content displayed in the "Textbox." Click the "This Is a Minor Edit" box if you didn't make substantial changes.
    • 3
Provide references for any information you add. Adhere as closely as possible to the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Access it by clicking the "Style Guidelines" link.
    • 4
Use "Wiki Markup" to change the formatting of the text. Click "Editing Help" and then "Quick Reference" to view the guidelines for wiki markup.
    • 5
Write a summary of the content you edited in the field below the "Edit Box." Press the "Show Preview" button to view the page with your edits included. Press the "Show Changes" button if you want to compare your changes with the original version of the article. Press the "Save Page" button.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a page has a "View Source" tab instead of an "Edit" tab, the page is protected. This means you will be unable to edit it directly. You can submit changes by submitting an "Edit Request."
