Autodesk's AutoCAD software uses the imperial system, meaning feet and
inches, by default. If you are working on a project that requires you to
use the metric system, you'll need to change your template accordingly.
By changing AutoCAD to metric, the default measurement in the program
automatically resets to millimeters and uses centimeters and meters as
units of measure. You can change the units of measure back to imperial
at any time by opening a new page in the program.
Instructions

-
1
Open AutoCAD on your computer and wait for the front page to load.
-
2
Click the AutoCAD logo in the
upper left corner of the screen. Click "New." A new dialog box opens
that allows you to set up a new page.
-
3
Scroll down through the template
options to "Initial Setup." Choose the type of drawing you need marked
with metric. For instance, for an architectural drawing, choose "Initial
Setup - Architectural - Metric." For structural engineering, choose
"Initial Setup - Structural - Metric."
-
4
Click "Open." The template opens
and all of the measurements are set to metric. Should you need to
change back to imperial after you've begun drawing, click the AutoCAD
logo at the top of the page and select "Drawing Utilities." Click
"Units" and reset the units of measure to inches.
