How to Determine the Correct UL Output Transformer
,
Underwriter's Laboratory is a
third-party organization that ensures consumer safety. Simply plugging a
transformer into the wall isn't enough when you want to be sure.
Anything that plugs into a wall outlet can pose a fire risk, which is
why the iconic stamp of approval on consumer goods is peace of mind.
Knowing that the transformer you are using is UL approved, it's
important to stay within the output limits and select the correct
transformer.

1
Review your power needs.
Specifically, you should know what output voltage and output current you
need for whatever devices you are trying to power. This will play
heavily into selecting the right transformer.
2
Review any supporting
documentation for a UL approved transformer. Review the output voltage
and current. This information may be reported the output voltage and
current ratings.
3
Verify the information on the
package for the transformer. It is common for transformers to have the
output current and voltage printed or labeled on the case. Once you are
sure that your power requirements will be met, then be sure the
connectors to hook up the transformer to the device will mate. Once all
these requirements are met, then you are ready to use the transformer
to power the device.
