How to Do the Opposite of Transparent in Photoshop

,
Art directors, designers, photographers and other digital creative professionals rely on Adobe Photoshop to retouch and enhance raster-based images. Photoshop's many features can create many special effects, including the ability to change the opacity of an image in any given layer. This feature can give the image depth or darken it so that layers behind the opaque image aren't visible.

Instructions

    • 1
Open the file you want to change the opacity in. Select "Window" from the main menu, then scroll down to select "Layers" to open the palette.
    • 2
Convert your background into a layer if the image is already flattened by double-clicking "Background" in the "Layers" panel. Alternatively, select "Layer" from the main menu, and scroll to "New," then "Layer From Background."
    • 3
Select the layer you want to adjust in the stack.
    • 4
Enter a value in the "Opacity" text field of the palette, or select the pull-down menu to choose the slider control. Slide the control to select a value between zero to 100 percent.
    • 5
Save your image as a copy if you want to preserve the previous transparency.
