How to Make a Banner With Pages in iWork

Apple's office software solution is iWork, which comes with the Numbers spreadsheet program, the Keynote presentation program and Pages, a word processing program. If you want to create a banner with your iWork software, you can accomplish this task quickly by using your Pages program.

     Open Pages and select "Blank Landscape" from the Theme Chooser that appears on your screen. If this option doesn't appear automatically, select "Blank" under "Word Processing." Then click "Blank Landscape" and click "Choose."

     Click "Text Box" from the list of options near the top of the next screen. When the text box appears on your page, click one of its edges and then drag its corners out to make the box -- which will be your banner -- the size you want it to be. As you drag, you'll see the width and height displayed in inches in a pop-up box.

     Click the outside edge of the text box. Then click the "Fill" button from the top menu. Select a color from the box of choices that appears. Click "Show Colors" to display more options.

     Click the "type to enter text" text. Then type in the text you want to appear on the banner.

     Highlight the text and select the font and size from the menu near the top of the page. Use the space bar above or below the text to move the text up or down in the box; use the center and right- and left-justify icons to move the text toward the center or to the right or left within the box.

     Place your cursor in the location where you want any graphics or images to appear on the banner. Select "Insert" from the Pages menu selections and click "Choose" to select a graphic or image from the selections on your computer. Depending on the image's size, it may be too large for the banner. Click its edges to highlight it. Then drag one of its corners in to make the image smaller.

     Click "File" and "Save As" or "Export" to save the banner as a file on your computer, or to export it as a PDF or other portable document for later use. You can also print the banner by selecting "File" and "Print."
