How to Make IMVU Signs

IMVU is an online community that allows users to create their own 3-D avatars for chatting and interacting with other members. You can also create your own content, such as an IMVU head sign. A “head sign” is floating text that appears above your avatar’s head. You can create the sign in a graphic editing program such as Paint, Photoshop or GIMP using white and black opacity map layers. You then apply these textures to an existing derived product using the IMVU Creator Mode.

Instructions

1. Create Sign Layers

     Launch your image-editing program. Click the “File” menu and select “New” from the context menu.

     Create a new document sized 512 pixels wide and 256 pixels in height.

     Select the color you want to use for your text color from the palette.

     Click the “Fill” tool and then click on your document to fill the image with the selected color.

     Save the image with the name “texture” and as either a JPG or PNG file type. This creates the texture file for your head sign.

     Select “black” from the color palette and fill your image with the “Fill” tool.

     Select “white” from the color palette and then click the “Text” tool.

     Choose the font type and font size you want to use for your head sign.

     Click on the image and type the words you want your sign to display in white text. When you upload the file to IMVU, the areas in white will be visible.

     Save your image as a JPG or PNG file. Give the file a different file name than the original image.

   Create Head Sign

     Log in to the IMVU website. Click “Shop” from the menu and then click “Browse the Catalogue.”

     Search for “Derivable Head Sig” and click the “(Tis) Derivable Head Sig” item.

     Scroll to the bottom to the “Creator Tools” section and record the product number displayed in large red type.

     Launch the IMVU chat client and click the “Create” button to launch Creator Mode.

     Click the “Derive a New Product” button. Type the product number that you jotted down earlier and then click the “Derive” button. You can now edit the product with the texture layers you created.

     Click the “Edit” button for the “Texture” selection, browse your computer and double-click the “texture” file you created.

     Click the “Edit” button for the “Opacity Map” selection and double-click the second black and white text file you created. Your new head sign will now display over the sample avatar in the left frame.
