How to Make a Photo Coaster With a Tumbled Tile
,
Photo coasters are function,
personal items to have in your home. They also make wonderful gifts for
friends and family. Use tumbled tile you purchase at a hardware store to
create these coasters. Choose photos that have people, landscapes or
architecture on them. They can be photos you took yourself, or photos
purchased specifically for this craft project. You can make a set of
four coasters in just a few hours.
Instructions
Things You'll Need
Tumbled tiles
Damp cloth
Photos
Photo pencil
Scissors
Decoupage glue
Foam paintbrush
Foam cork
Hot glue
1
Wipe down the tumbled tiles with
a damp cloth and allow them to dry. This removes and dirt and dust that
may have accumulated on them at the store.
2
Lay a tile on one of the photos
you want to use for your coasters. Trace around the tile with a photo
pencil. Cut the photo along the pencil line. Repeat with the remaining
photos.
3
Spread a thin layer of decoupage
glue on the top of one of the tiles using a foam paintbrush. Place a
picture on top, smoothing out any air bubbles with your hands. Repeat
with the other tiles and photos.
4
Cover each photo with a layer of
decoupage glue. Allow it to dry at least 15 minutes before applying
another coat. Apply at least three coats, allowing it to dry between
layers.
5
Spray the coaster with acrylic sealant. This will protect the photo from any water from glasses set on the coaster.
6
Cut a piece of foam cork to the
size of the tile. You can do this by measuring the tile or simply
tracing around it on the cork. The cork should be roughly 1/2 inch
smaller than the tile.
7
Put hot glue on the bottom of
the tile and stick the foam cork on it. Allow it to dry. The cork will
keep the tile coaster from scratching the table surface.
