Making a reusable felt calendar is a practical and economical way to teach your children or students about the days of the week, the months, the seasons and even the weather. Get creative and fancy with your design, planning out your project beforehand so that it will be the perfect dimensions for your needs. The kids will easily be able to pull off the dates, depending on the month, and stick them onto the right day of the week. Felt is a colorful material to use that young children especially will enjoy handling. Any size, shape or color will make this soft calendar the perfect addition to your everyday learning

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Paper and pencil
    • Ruler
    • Cardboard
    • Fabric scissors
    • 1 square yard of backing felt
    • Craft glue
    • Felt in a variety of colors
    • Iron-on fabric letters and numbers
    • Sew-on or self-adhesive hook-and-loop fastener (such as Velcro)
      • 1
Plan your felt calendar on paper. Decide how big it will be, and how big each piece will need to be. Your calendar will need to be divided into eight rows, one for the month, one for the days of the week, and six for the date and seven columns -- one for each day of the week. Use a ruler, if needed.

Cut your cardboard to the size of your calendar and cover it with backing felt. Glue the felt to the cardboard using crafting glue.
      • 3
Cut out thin strips of felt that will act as row and column dividers. Measure each strip according to your plans and make sure that it is a different color than your felt backing. Glue down the strips onto the front of the calendar, making a big row where the month will be placed, a row where the days of the week will be glued and rows where the dates can be changed.

Measure and cut out felt squares and rectangles that will be for your months, days and dates. You will need 12 month rectangles, seven day rectangles and 31 date squares.
      • 5
Iron on the months and the days of the week to your felt pieces using iron-on letter and number transfers.
      • 6
Stick on self-adhesive hook-and-loop fasteners directly to the calendar in the designated spots, and also to the backs of each month, day and date piece.
      • 7
Add extra decorations and titles to your calendar by cutting out felt designs or by ironing on words.
