Felt, which comes in many colors, sizes and patterns, is an inexpensive craft material that can be used for a variety of projects, including making a book for a child. The felt book can be personalized using any story you come up with or be made with images for a book your child can enjoy during quiet time, even if he or she is not able to read yet. It is simple to make and inexpensive, which makes it a great handmade gift.

1
Cut felt into equally sizes pieces or purchase smaller, rectangular felt pieces that may be kept the size in which they come. The amount of felt you use will depend on how long you make your book, but you will need a minimum of four pieces of felt. Fold each felt piece in half to make a crease then unfold them.

2
Cut out various story pieces from different colors of felt, either freehand or by tracing a stencil. You can also use punches for felt if you have punches that coordinate with your story. The felt pieces may be just images or include words if the book is for a child who can read. For instance, a book with only pictures may be one with seasons — like having a snowman for the winter page, beach scene for the summer page, autumn leaves for the fall page and flowers for the spring page.

3
Assemble your book by gluing the felt images to the appropriate pages as well as any felt letters you made. Put the book in the correct order and staple the pages together on the left side. If you are making a thick felt book that staples will not go into, you can sew a binding for the book.
