How to Open a CFM File

,
ColdFusion Markup (CFM) files are markup files created by the ColdFusion Web scripting application from Adobe. Unless you're a Web developer, chances are that you probably don't have an application designed to handle CFM files specifically. Although Windows doesn't support the opening or viewing of CFM files by default, you can use Notepad -- the built-in Windows text editor -- to open, view and edit the files without the need of the ColdFusion platform application.

Instructions

    • 1
Click “Start” and then “Computer.” Navigate to the folder containing the CFM file you want to open. Double-click the folder containing the CFM file to display its contents in Windows Explorer.
    • 2
Right-click the filename of the CFM file you want to open. After the pop-up menu appears, click “Open With Notepad." If the Open With Notepad option doesn't appear on the pop-up menu, click “Open With…” and then select “Notepad.”
    • 3
View or edit the CFM file as needed in Notepad. After viewing or editing the contents of the file, click “File” and then click “Save” to save any changes you made. Click “File” and then “Exit” to close Notepad.
