Peel effects in Adobe Fireworks add visual interest to your images. The peel effect is usually applied to a badge, a corner of the web page or an image to make it look like a sticker or page that is peeling up.
Getting Started
- To create your peel effect in Adobe Fireworks, make sure you have a shape on your page. Rounded shapes such as a circle, rounded square or rounded rectangle look the best. The shape needs to be a simple vector. If it is not a simple vector, click Join on the Combine Paths menu in the Modify menu. Now that the shape is in the proper format, you need to create your curl. You can either cut the corner of one shape or format two identical shapes to make the curl.
Create the Curl Using One Shape
- To create the curl using one shape, use the knife tool and slice one of the corners. This sliced piece is going to be the curl. You should change the color of the curl so that you can easily see it. To make it look as if the "sticker" is peeling off the "page," flip the curl both horizontally and vertically. These actions are located in the Transform submenu in the Modify menu. You may need to reposition the shape. Press “Ctrl” and any of the arrow keys to nudge the shape into position.
Create the Curl Using Four Shapes
- You can also create the curl using four shapes. Draw a rectangle over the shape and position it so that it covers the area of the desired area of the curl. Select both objects and copy, then paste, the shapes. This leaves you with four shapes on your page. You may need to move the pasted shapes out of the way. Select the original two shapes. Select Crop from the Combine Paths submenu in the Modify menu. This creates the curl. To create the main body of the sticker, select the two pasted shapes. Select Punch from the Combine submenu in the Modify menu. Position both pieces so they line up together. To make it look as if the sticker is peeling off the page, flip the curl both horizontally and vertically. You may need to bring the curl to the front in the Arrange menu. If needed, reposition the shape. Press “Ctrl” and any of the arrow keys to nudge the shape into position.
Styling
- Now that the curl is made and positioned, you should style the shapes to make them look as if they are actually peeling off the page. Consider adding a drop shadow to the curl to highlight the cut-out portion. You might also consider adding a colored or white border around the sticker portion of the shape. To add dimension to the curl, try adding a linear gradient with the darkest part of the gradient on the top of the curl.
