Things You'll Need
- 3DS Max, any version
- Gmax, any version
- 1Open your Web browser, and navigate to "katsbits.com/tools/#md5" to download the MD5 exporter for Gmax. Click on the "Gmax MD5 export: Berserker" link, and save the file on your hard disk drive.
- 2Extract the archive in a folder on your hard disk. There is no need to install the tool because you can run it from within the Gmax environment.
- 3Double-click the Gmax icon on your desktop, or click the Gmax icon in the Start menu to open the tool. Open the Gmax project you want 3DS Max plugins applied to.
- 4Go to the MAXScript menu, and select the Run Script option. Select the location of the MD5Exporter.mzp file you just extracted and click the "Run" button. A toolbox will appear.
- 5Select "Export both" in the Export options section to export both meshes and animations. Do not change the rest of the settings.
- 6Click on the "Export" button, select a location to save the MD5 file and give it a name. Wait for the project to be exported.
- 7Navigate to "katsbits.com/tools/#md5" to download the MD5 importer for 3DS Max. Click on the "3DS Max import: Berserker" link to download the tool.
- 8Save the importer to your hard disk drive, and extract the contents of the archive. Copy the resulting md5importer.ms file to the "Autodesk\3DS Max\Scripts" folder.
- 9Double-click the 3DS Max icon on your desktop, or click the 3DS Max icon in the Start menu to open the software.
- 10Go to the MAXScript menu and select the Run Script option. Select the location of the md5importer.ms file; click on the "Run" button. Leave the settings intact in the resulting toolbox.
- 11Select the path to the MD5 file you exported from Gmax, and click on the "Import" button. Wait for the file to be imported, and the Gmax project will be displayed inside 3DS Max. Use the 3DS Max plugins on the Gmax project.
