How to Open an FR File

FinalBurn Alpha uses software packaged as FR files to simulate arcade games on your PC.

Modern video games offer dazzling, high-resolution graphics, but early on, coin-operated arcade games were visually much simpler. FinalBurn Alpha, software that emulates arcade games, lets you play old-style arcade favorites such as "Ms. Pac-Man" and "Galaxian" without popping quarters in a machine. Instead, you just open an FR file on a Windows-based PC and start to play.

     Open FinalBurn Alpha. Click "Load Game" in the menu bar, and then click "Game Select Dialog" in the drop-down menu to open the dialog.

     Click to select a game in the list of games shown in the dialog box; games are in FR file format.

     Click the "Play" button in the dialog box to open the FR file and start playing the game you selected.
