AutoCAD Network Symbols

,
AutoCAD is drafting software with computer-aided design that is used by engineers and technical designers. AutoCAD was launched in December 1982 by Marin-chip Systems, which later became Autodesk. The foundation of AutoCAD is the X,Y coordinate system, known as the World Coordinate System, which designates absolute and relative points in a drawing.

Axis

  • AutoCAD is built on a dual axis system for 2D and a third axis for 3D drawing. Coordinates form the points that connect lines in a drawing. A point of origin where the the vertical y and horizontal x lines meet is a reference point (0,0) for all other points on the screen. Points to the right of the reference are have a plus signs in the values, while values left of the center have minus signs.

Blocks

  • Groups of geometric images in AutoCAD are called blocks, which can function as a single object. Blocks can be designed representing any shapes or angles and can be inserted in drawings. Symbols mean blocks are terms used interchangeably. Blocks can be reused in other drawings. They are efficient ways of storing information in a drawing.

Working with Blocks

  • Blocks are found in the Design Center can be opened by going to View and then Tab, which shows the library of blocks. On the Block Reference tab click the Block Palette at the top left corner, which allows you to insert, create and edit. An additional palette allows for attributes, providing further details about the object.

Tools

  • Symbols can represent tools for a specific industry such as Landscaping, Electrical, Architectural and Building Services. General symbols use icons that resemble scenes from everyday life such as partners, vehicles and pets. Mechanical symbols include the nuts and bolts of mechanical engineering. Architectural Symbols represent doorways, windows, plumbing and kitchen.
