The iPod usually boots in 20 to 30 seconds. During this time, it displays only the simple Apple logo on the large, 320 x 480 screen. If you want another, more interesting image, there is a way to create a custom boot logo and make it appear on your screen while the operating system is loading. The boot logo must be in PNG format and have a transparent background. It must also be smaller than the size of the screen.
Instructions
- 1Open your Web browser and navigate to IrfanView's website. Download the setup file and save it to your hard disk drive.
- 2Double-click the setup file to start installing IrfanView. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
- 3Download the image you would like to see when you boot your iPod or create a new image from scratch using your favorite image editor.
- 4Double-click the IrfanView icon to open the program. Go to "File" and select "Open" to open the image. Use the file browser to select the image file and click "Open."
- 5Go to "Image" and select "Resize/Resample" from the menu. The image must have a width smaller than 320 pixels and a height smaller than 480 pixels. Tick "Preserve aspect ratio" to avoid distorting the image and click "OK" to resize the image.
- 6Go to "File" and select "Save As" to save the image.
- 7Select "PNG" from the "Type" drop-down list and a list of PNG options will appear.
- 8Check the "Save Transparent Color" option and press "Save." The Set Transparent Color window will appear.
- 9Use the pointer to select the transparent color. The transparent color must be the background color, so click on any part of the background to select the color.
- 10Connect the iPod to your computer with the USB data transfer cable.
- 11Launch iTunes on your computer and use it to upload the PNG image to the iPod.
- 12Launch the Cydia application on your iPod and press the "Sections" button. It will display a list of applications.
- 13Find the LogoMe application and select it. Install the app and launch it from the springboard.
- 14Select the PNG image when LogoMe asks for an image file and click "OK." Wait for the program to set the new boot logo and restart the iPod. Your image will be displayed while the iPod boots.
