Multi-color lens flare from a light source reflecting off your camera lens can add to or detract from an image, depending on several factors, including the image subject and your personal preferences. Apple designed its Aperture photo editing and organization software with tools to retouch images. As a result, you can repair all or part of the image made imperfect by a flare in Aperture.
Instructions
- 1Open your image in Apple Aperture and zoom in on it as much as possible. Click “Z” on your keyboard, or click the “Zoom Viewer” button on the Tool Strip or Full Screen toolbar.
- 2Open the Retouch tools box. Click “X” on your keyboard or select the “Quick Brush” popup menu on the Tool Strip or Full Screen toolbar, then select “Retouch” from the options to open the box.
- 3Select a Retouch tool, then select “Repair” in the box to turn the cursor into a repair brush that can copy pixels to the flare area and blend them to make the repair. Select "Clone" to turn the cursor into a clone brush that copies pixels to the flare area without blending.
- 4Click and drag the “Radius” slider right or left to decrease or increase the size of the brush tool as needed.
- 5Press and hold “Alt” or “Option” on your keyboard and click a spot in another area of your image that has the pixels you want to use to repair the multi-color lens flare area of the image.
- 6Move your brush carefully across the flare to begin repairing the area. If you need to soften or harden the brush edge as you work, click and drag the “Softness” slider left or right.
- 7Export your edited version of the original image when finished to a location on your computer or an external storage device. Select "File," then "Export" and "Versions" to see the export options. Select the location where you want to save the file, select a file type such as .JPEG or .PNG, enter a name for the file and click the "Export Versions" button.
