The magic scratch art projects have been around for quite some time. Students love using a tool to “draw” a picture by scraping away the black film on the page. The picture created is made of colorful lines that only add to the appeal of this art technique. Today, there are several kits that come with pre-colored paper on which the black film is painted. However, kids can still make the magic scratch pictures with crayons, as kids have done for decades.
Instructions
- 1Draw a design on the blank white paper, using the pencil. It doesn't have to be complicated. You can draw horizontal lines, wavy bands or another design. Draw the lines lightly so that the crayon can easily cover them.
- 2Color the design with the crayons of several colors. Use bright colors and try to color each space evenly. Fill in every white space with some sort of color. Trace the pencil line with crayon or erase the pencil before completely filling in the white space on the paper.
- 3Peel the paper off the side of the black crayon. Lay it on the paper and drag the black crayon over the colorful design until the page is completely covered. Try to make the black evenly spread across the colorful design. Use more than one crayon as needed.
- 4Color the black layer twice to ensure that the design is completely covered in a layer that will scrape away.
- 5Use the paperclip, dowel or tool with an edge to “draw” a picture in the black layer. Drag the edge as you go to scrape away the black and reveal the color underneath. Blow the black pieces away.
