Black & White Wedding Crafts

,

Combining white and black flowers brightens both color tones.
Black & White Wedding Crafts thumbnailA wedding lets you celebrate your love between yourself and your new spouse among family and friends in an elegant setting. But, as anyone who married recently will tell you, the details of your special day are expensive. Expenses such as your dress have less flexibility than craft items you can make yourself, such as centerpieces and trim. Making your own wedding crafts showcases your creativity and helps make the event a truly personal experience.

  1. Bouquets

    • The cost of a single bouquet from a flower shop is anywhere from $50 to $300, or more, depending on the flowers and bouquet size. Make your own bouquets using white and black irises. The fragility of irises means you must make the bouquet as close to the wedding as possible. A loose bouquet interspersed with white Baby's Breath will preserve the irises' shape without making the arrangement appear sparse. Wrap a black satin ribbon at the top of the gathered stems and coil the ribbon to the bottom of the stems. Tie the remaining ribbon in a knotted bow for a simple and elegant presentation.

    Chair Slip Covers

    • Adorning the chairs at your reception in white canvas or linen turns any utilitarian group of hotel chairs into a sleek collection of furniture. A large bow tied behind the lower back of each chair tightens the covering and accentuates the chair shape. Replacing white or pastel-colored bows behind each covering with a coal-black satin ribbon illuminates the contrasting white linen and complements the centerpieces.

    Floating Candles

    • A large centerpiece with floating candles creates a romantic, well-crafted atmosphere using black and white crafting materials. Fill a large, oval bowl 4 inches from the top with cool water. Scatter white rose petals or silk rose petals over the water's surface. Set five or six floating black candles around the flower petals. Floating candles are shallow, round and covered in tin to protect the melting wax from the water. Light the candles once they are securely floating on the water.

    Napkin Holders

    • Continue your contrasting color crafts by making black and white napkin holders. A loop of white material sewn around an elastic will be an effective base for your napkin holder. Tie a black or white satin ribbon around the stems of a miniature bouquet of silk flowers that measures 4-inches tall. Silk flowers survive the scrunching and wrapping involved in securing napkins with less damage than real flowers. Secure the ribbon around the tiny bouquet to the loop of white fabric with a few dots of craft glue.
