How to Design Your Own Slim Cheap Skins for a PS3

Many online decal companies allow you to create and purchase personalized skin designs for your favorite gaming console, such as a PlayStation 3 Slim. If you often change the skin on your PS3, however, purchasing new skins can become costly. Skins are created on white, printable vinyl that has an adhesive back. To save money, purchase the vinyl product and use digital imaging software to create the skin design. A handful of companies, including Cricut Imagine and Inkpress, sell printable vinyl online.

     Determine whether or not you want to create a skin that covers the entire PS3 Slim. If you keep your PS3 Slim in a laying position, you can save money by creating a skin that does not cover the bottom portion of the gaming console.

     Use a cloth tape measure to measure the skin region and record the dimensions on a sheet of paper.

     Launch your preferred graphics software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel PaintShop Pro. If you don’t have a graphics program installed on your computer, you can download and install a free program such as GIMP or a trial version of Adobe Photoshop or Corel PaintShop online.

     Click the “File” tab and select “New.” You will be prompted to select the dimensions for your new, blank canvas. Select the “Inches” option and enter the dimensions in the “Width” and “Height” fields. Click “OK.”

     Design your skin. Depending on your preference, you import digital images saved to your PC, add text, select a background color and use the freehand drawing tools to create a custom design.

     Insert the printable, vinyl sheets face down in your printer’s paper tray.

     Click the “File” tab and select “Print.”

     Click the “Preferences” button in the “Print” dialog box. Click the “Paper/Quality” tab and check the box next to the “Borderless Printing” option. Since the minimum height and width of a PS3 Slim skin is 11.42 x 11.42 inches, your design will require at least four sheets of printable vinyl. Click the “OK” button to return to the main “Print” screen.

     Click “Print.” Depending on the size of your skin design, you may be prompted to insert one or more sheets of vinyl paper into your printer.
